Old Wedding Dresses

The latest trends in wedding dress fashion admit the fact that the “new” is “old”. As paradoxical as it may sound, more and more brides of today seem to be attracted to the idea of wearing a vintage gown or any period, century or old wedding dress that can make them look incredibly fashionable, distinctive, refined and unique.

This is the main purpose actually: looking as different and original as possible! But how about you? Have you ever considered buying an old wedding dress rather than a wedding dress off the rack? Let’s not imagine that “old” means old-fashioned, aged and out of trends. The contrary actually! As any bride reading this article knows, an old wedding dress is totally unique because of the old charm and beauty that never seems to fade.

Any type of bride can put on an affordable period wedding dress and look of millions of bucks. One of the greatest advantages of an old wedding dress is the fact that it can cost you less money if you purchase it from a thrift store or a consignment.

There are many places to find a vintage wedding dress but it all depends on your wedding budget and how much you can afford to spend on the old wedding dress of your dreams. For instance, if you’re looking for a truly original and authentic old wedding dress you should definitely have it customized by a professional and specialized dressmaker or by it from a famous wedding dress designer who creates such gorgeous designs.

You can plan any type of wedding and create the perfect context for you to show up dresses in a magical old wedding dress. But most brides who decide to wear an old wedding dress are usually spending the wedding day in a fairy-tale location, in a botanical garden – perhaps English Garden or renaissance garden, in a public park, in a historical cathedral or medieval castle.

The classy look of an old wedding dress can complement perfectly the uniqueness, romance and versatility of the wedding set and décor. An old wedding dress is beautiful and distinctive because it is usually embroidered with all kinds of appliqués, sequins, lace, crystals and any other workmanship that can make the dress look more fanciful, attractive, feminine, romantic, glamorous and eye-catching.

If you decide to go with an old wedding dress purchased from a thrift store, from a second hand bridal boutique or a vintage clothing store, make sure that the old wedding dress you choose doesn’t have irremediable damages. Avoid as much as possible buying a too destroyed old wedding dress that may have irreparable holes, ruptures, unraveling or un-washable stains. Keep in mind that modern materials hardly can match an old material that you might need to repair a certain rupture of the dress.

When you said old I didn’t know what to expect exactly. In my mind there was this image of a lace dress, because i believe lace makes a wedding dress seem old. But I saw these two, I read your article and I understood it’s not exactly like this, although it could be. However, if i were to choose a old wedding dress i think i’d go for the medieval type of dress. it’s just because i always thought they are the most suitable for me, who i have a very not nice silhouette, to be gentle. and the corset of the bodice together with the skirt that has such a great volume would fit me just perfectly. so it seems that i just have to look for it, right?
