1950s Wedding Dresses

If you’re into vintage styles and if you admire all that’s old and has great story, there’s no better way to show this personality than wearing a 1950s wedding dress on your wedding day. White and traditional, you will look like a innocent and pretty little bride. The 1950s style, wasn’t about showing a lot of skin, wasn’t abut being sexy, it was more about being elegant and classy. If you compare a 1950s wedding dress with the nowadays dresses you will see that the 1950s wedding dresses were very, very modest.

The tendency was to be with sleeves, long dresses, with a not too low neckline and not too many embellishments, somethings none.  In the 1950s the in thing in fashion was the ultra-feminine style. This is why almost all 1950s wedding dresses try to reflect this way of seeing things. They are feminine and innocent.  Dior came into the picture and changed everything. Especially after the second World War.  Now the full skirts appeared, the emphasized waist, the rounded shoulders and if you wanted to wear such a dress you had to have thin, tall heels.  The most incredible feminine characteristic of that period was the lace. The French lace was the symbol of freedom.  The face was manufactured again after Hitler’s terrifying period.

If you take a look at the way celebrities from that era wore their dresses you will see that to play it up was the trend. Crinolines, hoop skirts and not the least the metal zipper that stays n the back of the dress. Here are some styles and looks from the 1950s:

- flutter hems
- scooped neckline
- dropped hemline
- layered materials
- gothic style collars
- lace boleros on top of the strapless dress. As I’ve said everything had to be covered at the beginning.
- the dress’s length was ankle length than floor length.

If you’re thinking to take into consideration wearing a 1950s wedding dress, don’t worry about finding the dress,it will be easier than you think. The first place you should go to is to Vintage stores. Also, another great idea would be a antique wedding dress shop. You might have a chance here as well. If you don’t find your 1950s wedding dress at all of these boutiques.  You have 2 other chances, First go into your grandma’s bureau, and if here you can;t find anything go online. E-Bay it’s a great place to search for vintage dresses.  You should find your perfect 1950s wedding dress.

Even if the 1950s wedding dresses are so beautiful and elegant., there’s one downside to them. It’s about finding your size and about finding yellow whitey, yellow blemish or stains on the dress. You have to think about the fact that these dresses are quite old so they might not be preserved in a perfect way.

If you want to go for a 1950s wedding theme or if you just want to wear a 1950s wedding dress, there is hope for you to find the perfect one.  Dig it online, go to shops and don’t give up until you find the dress that you wish for.
